Crib mattress
I need some advice from all of you moms that have already purchased a crib mattress. Now that we have the crib obviously we need a mattress ha! I was at Target yesterday and found a Sealy on sale. It is fire proof and has a 10 year warranty. What else should I be looking for? Do I need to pay the $100 something dollars they cost at Babies R Us or does it really matter? I am just wanting to make sure I am doing the best for Mr. Griffin, but of course if its okay I will take the sale if we can!!! :)

I was told by dr when we were picking out baby mat., that you want to look for something firm. You do not want something too smooshy to lead baby in too deep of sleep. Sealy is a very trusted brand. You can always check out the reviews online or off consumer reports. You also want to make sure it is water proof - very important! ct
We have a sealy for Georgia Kate and it is awesome! It is a lot heavier than I expected. It is also really thick so we have trouble keeping sheets on it. We got the clips that go on the corners and solved that problem! Otherwise, they are wonderful!
We have the Sealy Natural Rest for Delia. It was about $80 at Target, I think...it was a gift. She has always slept great on it. It's very firm and waterproof and has had great reviews.
We went organic with ours. There was lots in the news about the chemicals used to do the fire proofing and that type stuff, so we felt better with organic. The pediatrician did say something firm is the best. I would say if it's firm and the reviews online are good then you are probably good to go!!!
We were told just to get a firm one. That is the only thing you are supposed to be concerned with. This was hard for Jeremy b/c he wanted it to be pluch so she would be comfortable. I guess they are comfortable on anything after they get out of being smushed in your belly! Everyone told me not to spend a lot.
Hi, I'm a friend of Missy's and recently had a precious little girl, which I believe you embroidered a few things for (Reagan Elizabeth). The bib and burp cloths look great by the way...
To follow suit with the others advice, firm is what your looking for and we too have the sealy from target for $80. I can't yet vouch for how well Reagan will sleep on it, she hasn't made it to the crib just yet (reflux issues) but it had great reviews and as it has been said, sealy is a trusted brand. It's not necessary to spend all the extra money- Griffin won't care how much it costs as long as it is safe. :) Good Luck!
I read an article in Parents magazine that said unless you plan on leaving your baby in their crib for a long time, or over 60 pounds, any mattress is fine. We plan on converting our crib to a full bed anyways once Lake gets older. It suggested one from Wal-mart that was around $45 and that's the one we got. Amanda
I researched this a lot and the main thing you want to be concerned with is having a firm one until they reach the age of rolling over (about 4-5 months or so) because of the risk of SIDS. I am sure you have heard about that and how they think that the air circulation might be a cause. Once they are sitting up and strong enough to turn over you can switch it to a softer one. We paid a little more money (about $125) and got one that you can flip. Firm on one side, soft on the other. It is also waterproof and when you have those little accidents in the bed you can just wipe it off. We plan on using this for our future baby as well. I wouldnt stress about it. You dont need to spend a lot of money, for us it was just more economical to buy one that you could flip instead of buying 2 matresses. Good luck!
