Coach Meadows is 2-0

Since I have football on the brain right now I wanted to fill everyone in on my Uncle Scott. He is the head coach of William Blount High School in Maryville, TN. They played their 2nd game of the season last night against Dobyns-Bennett (who was ranked 10th in the state) and they beat them 24-14!!! I get weekly updates from Mimi and Potts "aka Coach Dad and Coach Mom" who attend every game. We are so proud of Scott and the amazing coach he has become. In 2001, he won the state with his Alcoa team and proves to have a team who always has high expectations in the community from the legacy he has developed through the years. Keep on bringing in those W's Coach Meadows :)

This is their website if anyone is interested, click here. They have updated pictures and scores of each game.

Good Luck Kaho!

Today Kaho stopped by to say goodbye to us. He is headed to the University of Toronto on Monday where he will be studying the Hebrew language. Can you imagine going from Chinese to learning English to then learn Hebrew? Ha yea he is an amazing man.. and he does it all for Jesus too :) Kaho we will miss you but will definitely stay in touch. We pray that you will have safe travels and that your transition to the new city and school will be a good one. We value your friendship greatly!

Do you have on your Orange and White today?

You know I do :) T minus 36 hours and counting!!! JR and I were so excited about college football that we went to Texas Roadhouse last night just so we could watch the first games. LSU definitely put a whoppin on Mississippi State... looks like the SEC is going to be HOT this season for sure!!!

Happy Birthday Potts!

Today is Potts 65th birthday! For those who dont know Potts is my mother's father and it very very special to me. You may ask why the unique name of "Potts" for your grandfather, and actually I do not know what was going on when I was a little girl and named him this, however it truly fits now. A special name for a special person is what I like to say :) Potts is an amazing man of the Lord and was the person God used to help me learn about Jesus as a teen. He and Mimi were the leaders of our church youth group and everyone loved them! Potts is very real and will be honest with you, even when you may not want to hear it. He has challenged me in so many important areas of my life:with God, sports, education, my relationship with JR, etc. I truly believe that without he and Mimi's love and support through the years, I would not be where I am today. They are not just my grandparents, but truly 2 of my best friends.

Potts you have shown me so much love through the years. I hope that today and always you know how much you mean to me. I love you so much!!!

The most hilarious blog i have ever seen!

I was sent this link to an Ebay auction and it caught my eye. You will notice that for no good reason at all this lady is selling Pokemon cards worth no more than $6 and ended up getting $142 all because of the story she put in her description. I must say it is quite hilarious and I was even more excited because she has a BLOG :) The address is http://mom2my6pack.blogspot.com/ You will notice that her very first blog was just in June 2007 (I have included her first blog below). It is amazing to see how fast her popularity from this blog and ebay item has grown! She now gets 11,000 hits a day to her blog!!! Wowzers :) Especially to all of you moms out there.. this is a MUST read! She has 6 kids and oh does that bring so many funny things for her to blog about. Her writing is great.. and she even plans to write a book now. It all started with this ....

The Ball That Started it All

I'm selling the baseball that started my wonderful first day of spring break. Do you want to know why I'm selling the baseball that started off my wonderful first day of spring break? Only because Ebay won't let me sell my kids who were playing with the baseball that started my wonderful day. Is spring break over yet?! Here's the whole story...

First, my boys (10 year old and 6 year old) decided it would be a good idea to play baseball in their room instead of getting up and watching tv like normal kids. Well, let me tell you, it is NEVER a good thing to awake to the sound of crashing glass. Thankfully, it was just their light and not the window this time. So, I go to clean up the glass in the boys' room when I hear those delightful words, "Mooooooom, Lexi tried to flush her pull-up in the toilet and water's EVERYWHERE!"

Grrr, ok, the broken glass gets put on hold while I get the mop for the bathroom and try to dislodge the soggy diaper that's stopping up the toilet. Let me tell you - this is not fun stuff when you haven't even had your coffee yet! Before I can clean up the waterlogged bathroom, the baby starts crying. Sooo, I leave the bathroom mess to grab the baby and change his diaper. The diaper pail is full, so I pull the bag of dirty diapers out and start for the door so I can dump them outside before the toxic smell kills us all. Do I make it outside? Noooo, of course not. I get side tracked by my 3 year old who is finger painting on the TV with yogurt.
Lovely. Let's recap - Broken glass in the boys' room, Flooded toilet, Smelly diapers, Yogurt covered TV, and it's only 9:00.

OK, I put the baby in his highchair, toss him some Cheerios, throw the diapers outside, grab the glass cleaner and get to work on the TV all the while yelling at my 6 year old to get dressed. Does he get dressed? Nooooo. Instead, he takes out my 10 year old's hermit crab to "play with it". He gets scared and drops the poor crab who scurries away into the pile of clothes and toys and STUFF that permanently covers the floor of the boys' room. Will the fun never end? So, I start searching among all the stuff and broken glass for the crab.

In the meantime, my 3 year old takes out the maple syrup and pours it on the tray of the highchair. By the time I find the crab and return him to the relative safety of his tank, the baby is glued to the highchair with maple syrup. It's covering his jammies, his hands, his hair, and the curtains that he's able to reach from his chair. Lucky me. Before throwing the baby in the tub, I take down the curtains and start a load of laundry.

So I put a movie on for my 3 and my 6 year old (aka partners in crime). Ahhhh peace. I bathe the baby and get him dressed, but before I can play one game of Peek-A-Boo with him, I hear the little ones fighting over a crayon. I put the baby in the play pen and break up The Great Crayon Battle. Then I notice that there were casualties in The Great Crayon Battle. Namely my leather chair and the wall in the living room. At this point, the broken glass and flooded bathroom are all but forgotten as I work on scrubbing crayon off the wall. There has GOT to be a boot camp for toddlers somewhere!

The baby picks this day to learn a new trick. It's called, 'Hey I can escape from the play pen!' I have no idea how he managed to pull himself out of that thing, but he did. Want to know how I know he escaped? Because I heard the 3 year old shouting from the kitchen, "Moooooom, the baby is eating Puppy Chow!" I drop my cleaning sponge and run to the kitchen to find my baby sitting in a pool of water from the dog's dish, and happily munching away on dog food. Oh well. At least I won't have to feed him lunch.

I manage to change him. Again. I confiscate the older kids' Gameboys and put them to work making lunch for everyone. It's noon by now and I haven't showered, or finished the laundry, or washed the dishes from breakfast, or mopped up the bathroom, or cleaned up the broken glass, or scrubbed the crayon off the wall, or hung the curtains back up. But, on the bright side, there haven't been any broken bones or a need for stitches, so all in all, it's a good day.

After lunch, I banish 4 of the kids outside and lay the baby down for a nap. I clean up the peanut butter and Kool-Aid mess in the kitchen from where my oldest kids made lunch. Ahhh peace and quiet at last. I bake a birthday cake for my sister while the kids are playing nicely outside. Then I think to myself - 'They're playing nicely??? Wait a minute. They must be up to something!' Sure enough, the 3 year old is throwing globs of wet sand against the house and the 10 year old is trying to tie a rope to the chimney so he can repel down the side of the garage. WHERE DO THEY COME UP WITH THIS STUFF???!

While the cake is cooling inside, I help my kids clean up outside and play catch with them for a while. I don't happen to notice that the 3 and the 6 year olds disappear inside at some point. When I go inside to check on them and see if the baby is still sleeping, I see that the partners in crime have gotten into my cake decorating box and have painted themselves with black icing color! AARRRGGGHHH!!! I throw my little black-faced children in the tub and attempt to clean up the trail of black color on my kitchen table and the walls. While goofing off in the bathtub, they manage to knock a hole in the wall! That's right - A HOLE! We knew the wall was getting a little spongy, but having 5 kids tends to drain you financially and we just hadn't been able to do any remodeling. Sooo, now we have a hole in the wall which just lends to overall ambience of our "oh so classy" home.

This is about the time I start thinking that rum would be a good way to end the day. Oh yes, to top it off, my husband comes home and asks, "So, what did you do today?" GRRRR!
So, up for sale is the baseball that broke the light and started off my wonderful first day of spring break. I'd like to say that this is just one isolated day of insanity, but unfortunately this is pretty much my life. And yes, I actually did stop in the middle of the chaos to take pictures because everyone tells me that one day I'll look back fondly and laugh. (I have my doubts about this theory.)

PS - If anyone knows Super Nanny, send her my way!!!

My first skirt!

And you know it had to be orange!!! I made my first attempt at actually sewing something together this weekend and will have to say it was a lot easier than I expected :) I got a pattern, got the fabric and about an hour later (yes I am slow b/c I am just learning!) wala... you have a UT game day skirt. I told JR afterwards that I may just start making all of my clothes... haha then I realized I would never have enough time to do that but definitely will continue to learn new things. Next thing to learn, putting in a zipper...man this elastic wont cut it all the time!

Pool Party

Okay so maybe not a real pool party but the best we could do to help Major and Maddie break the heat this weekend :) haha gotta love it!

Rhonda the Ranger is headed to Mexico!

This post is really for Liz Carden, but for all of you that dont know JR's vehicle situation....

Rhonda the Ranger kicked the bucket back in January. We arent really sure what is wrong with her but do not have the funds to fix her, and even if we did we arent sure that we would b/c she is a '94 and there is no telling how much more life she may have. So last week we decided to put Rhonda for sale on Craig's List. Now let me tell you how impressed we were to get a phone call within 10 minutes of posting, and then another 5-7 calls that night. We ended up selling her to a guy named Emmanuel who is going to take her back home to Mexico with him. So long Rhonda.... please get out of our driveway b/c you are still costing us in taxes :) Just kidding she has been a good one but we look forward to replacing her by the end of the year. Car shopping here we come!!!

Missions

In November of 2005, I had no idea that when we took this picture it would mean so much to me. The past 2 days in our chapel services here on campus we have talked about missions and oh does my hurt burn. I remember the first time JR had asked me if I wanted to go to Africa with him and I laughed and said he must be crazy. I also remember that after spending 2 weeks with the people of Swaziland, I said that I never wanted to leave. I truly encourage each of you to listen to Dr. Akin (our President at SEBTS) and Dr. Ashford's (our Director of Missions Center) sermons on our school's website. They will truly bless your heart!

Dr. Ashford's message is about the greatest missionary there has ever been, the apostle Paul. He explains that when Paul realized his debt to Christ because He had died for him, he rearranged his life to repay Christ for that debt. Wow! He also explained how Paul went to the land of Rome, which was the place that no one wanted to go, and he went knowing that he might die for the gospel, yet he was not ashamed. Dr. Ashford further explains God's call to man to fulfill the Great Commission of spreading the gospel to all tribe, tongue and nation. He then asks these very hard questions:
1. Do you really understand what Christ has done for you? And if so do you see yourself as a debtor?
2. Do you feel the truth of Hell and if so do you understand that the gospel can deliver all people from it?
3. Are you ready to go to that uncomfortable place (like Paul went to Rome)? Are you willing to give up the comforts you have grown used to because you value God more than those material things?
4. Do you understand the depths of man's depravity?

This message has laid heavy on my heart all day long and so I wanted to share it with you. I hope it pricks your heart like it did mine.

Engagement Story

This weekend I was asked to share our engagement story to some of our friends that are on JR's softball team. They loved the story and so do I of course, so I thought I would share it with all of my blogger friends too.

Tuesday, December 27th, 2005, I was awakened by my younger brother Mason telling me that I had a package I needed to open. Keep in mind this was 2 days after Christmas, so I totally thought it was something i had forgotten to open but was unsure as to why he was waking me up at 8am to tell me. So I got out of bed and opened the box to find a dress and a pair of shoes to match. The letter inside told me to get ready by putting on these clothes because today was going to be a special day. After shock and immediate suspension (we had been dating for 7 years at this point.. cmon you would think it was time too ha!) I got out of bed and got ready. A few minutes later my brother brought me another letter. In this letter JR wrote about my father's house (where I was) and how special it was to both of us. This whole time my friend Missy, who had stayed the night with me, both brothers and Sue and Dad did nothing but smile. And when I asked, "What is going on?" they responded with well we dont know. Yea right they didn't know haha. At 8:45am there was a knock on the front door. I looked outside and saw that a white limo was in the driveway and they had laid out the red carpet for me. "This is going to be a great day" I thought to myself :) JR's brother Phillip got out of the limo and handed me a scrapbook that JR had our friend Liz help him make. Inside was everything you could think of: old letters we had written to each other in high school, movie stubs, receipts from when we worked at Cracker Barrel, and of course A LOT of pictures from our many years of dating. At the end of the scrapbook, the last page said Man and Wife and a lifetime together, and so from then on I knew without a doubt that would be that day I was getting engaged. Phillip and I took off in the limo and went to our next stop. At each stop there was one of JR's best friends and groomsmen there waiting for me with a rose and another letter about why the place we were at was so special to us and how it played a role in our relationship. The limo took me to: our favorite spot on the lake, my mom's house, our high school, the football field where we had many of discussions about our future together, his parents and my grandmothers. At the end it was me and 8 guys in the limo, but still no JR! Finally about 12:30 we made our way to the church that JR and I grew up in. Everyone got out in front of me and Phillip waited to escort me down the aisle. As soon as the doors opened I saw all of my family and friends sitting in the pews.. and at the front on stage was JR.
He began to play a song that he had written for me as I walked down. Of course at this point I was balling :) The song was absolutely precious and once I get a copy of the words I will share those too. Everyone in the whole place was crying I think haha. You can also see in the background he had set up a slideshow of pictures of us together.

(to listen to the song that he wrote for me, follow the link on the left for "engagement video")
After his song he proceeded to tell everyone why he knew God had called us to be together and spoke of the journey He had brought us on together. He shared several Bible verses and also washed my feet.

Finally the moment I had waited for and I wish I had a picture of what my face looked like once I saw the ring. He did very good!!! :)
We were both so excited that this was the start of our future life as husband and wife.

I was so thankful to have my very best friends there with me. Missy, JD and Jessica had been right there with us all along our relationship, so it was only fitting that they were there to share this special moment with me. JR was so sweet to get Katie in town from Pittsburg too!
All of the guys were so excited to be a part of our day. It was so funny hearing all of them trying to play it off like nothing was happening, even though we were all in a limo and dressed up. :)

Can you tell I was a little excited to have my ring? :)

Afterwards we all gathered in the fellowship hall for a small reception and then went ice skating. It was a perfect day. And that is the end of our engagement story. Thanks for reading!

Puppy update

Look how our puppies have grown! I received an update from a sweet family who actually bought 2 of our puppies back in May:

Hi......wanted to send you some pics and update you on our pups. We were the ones that met you at Cracker Barrel and bought the 2 females. We named them Nikki and Ginger. They have very distinct personalities. Ginger (the one my son picked out first)is very laid back and thinks she is a lap dog. Nikki, on the other hand, is wild & crazy. She cannot be still for a minute. She torments Ginger all the time. I think Nikki has attention deficit disorder. They are always together and sleep side by side. We bought them a small pool and they love the water!Ginger is already a TN Vols fan....check out the collar!They weigh approx 32 lbs now. They are growing fast.

How excited we are to know that they are making a family so happy :)

Happy Birthday JD!

Today is JD's 24th birthday! JD and I have been friends since elementary school and she is one of those friends who I could not live without. We developed a strong bond over sports in our younger years that quickly developed into being more like sisters. When JD and I were not playing or practicing a sport together, she was usually over at my house. She is just like a member of our family and just like my mom said at my sister's birthday a few weeks ago, "It wouldnt be a family birthday party if JD wasnt here with us." She is an amazing friend who has been there for me through SOOO much! It is funny because now that my memory is absolutely terrible (not sure why but i swear I have amnesia sometime haha) I have to call her and ask her about my past. She always says, "Lindsey, dont you remember that time that we did this or went there?" Yea i have no clue :) I love you JD and am so thankful for the amazing woman you are. God has truly blessed me by giving me a friend like you. I hope you have a wonderful day!

School is back in session

And needless to say that means busy busy busy for the Isham family. Not only do we already have homework for our class that will meet on Monday, haha WOW, but our workdays are packed with students questions and emails now so I do apologize for the lack of posts. Yall know I love to blog, so if I dont then I must be REALLY busy, so busy that I have not had time to take lunch breaks. And no lunch breaks means no blogging :) This weekend JR is playing in another softball tournament and we are celebrating our good friend Elizabeth's birthday. I promise to do a nice long post on Monday or perhaps this weekend! Hope everyone has a great one!

Cute kids quotes

Children in church

A little boy was in a relative's wedding.
As he was coming down the aisle, he would take two steps, stop, and turn to the crowd.

While facing the crowd, he would put his hands up like claws and roar.
So it went, step, step, ROAR, step, step, ROAR, all the way down the aisle.
As you can imagine, the crowd was near tears from laughing so hard by the time he reached the pulpit.
When asked what he was doing, the child sniffed and said, "I was being the Ring Bear."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One Sunday in a Midwest City, a young child was "acting up" during the morning worship hour.
The parents did their best to maintain some sense of order in the pew but were losing the battle.
Finally, the father picked the little fellow up and walked sternly up the aisle on his way out.
Just before reaching the safety of the foyer,the little one called loudly to the congregation, "Pray for me! Pray for me!"
---------------------------------------------------------------
One particular four-year old prayed, "And forgive us our trash baskets as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets."
---------------------------------------------------------------
A little boy was overheard praying: "Lord, if you can't make me a better boy, don't worry about it. I'm having a real good time like I am."
---------------------------------------------------------------
A Sunday S chool teacher asked her little children, as they were on the way to church service, "And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?"
One bright little girl replied, "Because people are sleeping."
---------------------------------------------------------------
A little boy opened the big and old family Bible with fascination, looking at the old pages as he turned them.
Then something fell out of the Bible. He picked it up and looked at it closely. It was an old leaf from a tree that has been pressed in between the pages.
"Mama, look what I found," the boy called out.
"What have you got there, dear?" his mother asked.
With astonishment in the young boy's voice he answered, "It's Adam's suit".
---------------------------------------------------------------
The preacher was wired for sound with a lapel mike, and as he preached, he moved briskly about the platform, jerking the mike cord as he went.
Then he moved to one side, getting wound up in the cord and nearly tripping before jerking it again.
After several circles and jerks, a little girl in the third pew leaned toward her mother and whispered, "If he gets loose, will he hurt us?"
---------------------------------------------------------------
Six-year old Angie, and her four-year old brother, Joel, were sitting together in church.
Joel giggled, sang and talked out loud.
Finally, his big sister had had enough. "You're not supposed to talk out loud in church."
"Why? Who's going to stop me?" Joel asked.
Angie pointed to the back of the church and said, "See those two men standing by the door? They're hushers."
---------------------------------------------------------------
My grandson was visiting one day when he asked , "Grandma, do you know how you and God are alike?"
I mentally polished my halo, while I asked, "No, how are we alike?"
"You're both old," he replied.
---------------------------------------------------------------
A ten-year old, under the tutelage of her grandmother, was becoming quite knowledgeable about the Bible.
Then, one day, she floored her grandmother by asking, "Which Virgin was the mother of Jesus? The virgin Mary or the King James Virgin?"
Ka Ho Lok
Last night our friend Ka Ho came over to show us how to fix the original Chinese cuisine. He is from Hong Kong and has attended Southeastern for the last several years. He and JR met in the Registrar's office and became immediate friends. They decided Monday night to go to a mart close by that had all they would need. They ate dinner that night out and JR was excited to have his favorite Chinese "general tsao's chicken" and Ka Ho died laughing at him. He told JR that it was by far not from China, but instead Chinese people in New York who were trying to please the Americans. We had a great time learning Ka Ho's special tricks and of course enjoyed eating it afterwards. I would attempt to spell out what it was that we had but I will just embarrass myself so I wont try. Instead I will tell you the funny thing my husband kept saying last night to try and speak Chinese and that was "Bong Chow" (in his very best Chinese accent too of course). Ka Ho just laughed everytime letting him know that it was in now way even close to a real Chinese word haha :) We enjoyed a great game of SORRY after dinner and had a great night together. Ka Ho is about to move to Canada to get his PHD and we will definitely miss our friend. He gave us his wonderful recipes though, so the Ka Ho tradition will continue to go on in the Isham household :)
Gotta love him
I just love my sweet husband and the many times he makes me laugh with his innocence. Yesterday I sent him this link to our friends who are expecting a baby so he could see their pictures. After work when we were driving home I said, "So sweetie, did you see Julie's pictures on their website." And he responded, "Yea. But why was she just taking a bunch of pictures in every shirt she owns." Of course I died laughing and said, "Honey, those are all at different times, showing everyone what her belly looks like at each week of pregnancy." Once he realized I was right and they were all different he started laughing too. I mean could he really not tell her belly went from small to big haha and that they obviously were not taken all at the same time. Details that men never see hahahah. I love his innocence when it comes to things that to us girls is just a known thing to do when you are pregnant, and yet to him it was just a girl modeling her new clothes. Gotta love him :)
How cute is this?
Two young boys walk into a pharmacy one day, pick out a box of Tampax and proceed to the checkout counter. The man at the counter asks the older boy, "Son, how old are you?"
"Eight," the boy replies.
The man continues, "Do you know what these are used for?"
"Not exactly," the boy says. "But they aren't for me. They're for him. He's my brother. He's four. We saw on TV that if you use these you would be able to swim and ride a bike. Right now he can't do either one."
Looney wedding extravaganza
Make an on-line slideshow at www.OneTrueMedia.com
The Wade/Looney wedding was everything a wedding should be and more. A beautiful bride, very happy groom, wonderful families joining together and a reunion of old friends there to celebrate. I had a wonderful time and was honored to be a part of the special day. Jenn was a very organized bride which made things very easy and both the bride and groom were relaxed and ready to celebrate at the reception. They had an 80's band called Bueller and the reception site was very pretty, on the top floor of a hotel windows everywhere. It was so fun to see all of my wonderful sorority sisters and their men, as well as some of the best Roane county natives around. (Jenn and I are both from Roane County ha!) Now the newly weds are relaxing on the beaches of St. Lucia in a Sandals resort and I could not be happier for them. (PS. You can view all of the pictures that I took in my Picasa web album, link to the left.)
