As I cleaned out Griffin's room yet again this weekend, it first of all dawned on me that I keep his room WAY cleaner than ours, a secondly that once he gets here I am sure it will NEVER look this good ha!
But as I was in the process, it hit me that we have no diapers yet! Everyone keeps asking me if we are all ready for him and I say that yes the nursery is done, but we still need the basics. Should I be buying a pack of diapers each time I go to the store? Is it normal that I dont have any 9 weeks out? And is it realistic to expect to get some at the showers?? I know every time I got to a shower the last thing I think to get are diapers... but maybe I am just not practical and most people are :)
Come on mom's out there.. help a sista out! Speak to me!
I like to be stocked on stuff like that so I would buy a couple packs of newborn size little swaddlers (I didn't realize there was such a thing and took size 1 to the hospital...it was the size of his whole body...oops!). I would also have some size 1 and 2 diapers stashed away...they go through sizes so fast when they're newborn. My Griffin is already in 3s for heaven's sake! I got some at showers too so that will probably happen too. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteHey girl...we got tons of diapers at showers...plus the hospital sent us home with tons!! It's not a bad idea though to be stocked up. Good thing is that you can always take them back and exchange the sizes so don't open any packages of diapers until u need them!
ReplyDeletewe didn't bring any diapers to the hosptial. Rex had Newborn Swaddlers there. We also took all the extra diapers the day we left. Our nurse said they would just throw them away anyway.
ReplyDeleteWe only had to buy 1 pack of diapers for Elizabeth the whole first year. people gave us diapers of all sizes, and it was extremely helpful. we had a diaper shower though. I would ask for them...it was such a money saver for us!
It might be good to buy some diapers but I got several packages at my shower, although if you intend to use a particular brand you might have to do some returning. Advice that was given to me is this: Pampers or Luvs diapers and huggies wipes. I prefer Pampers- they're softer than Luvs and I've used some pampers wipes and they are flimsy and not very moist like the Huggies wipes are. Hope this helps. :)
ReplyDeleteI know I'm having a diaper shower. But I have thought about that too. How fun Lindsey! Don't worry you'll be ready!
ReplyDeleteI only got 1 pack of diapers at my showers.I went and bought like 2 packs of newborn diapers and brought the ones home from the hospital and she ended up only wearing newborn for like a week and a half maybe. Now she is in 3's. It wouldn't hurt to buy like 1 pack of NB and 1 pack of 1's. I am sure you will get some at the shower. I have also heard that Pampers Swaddlers are good for boys (I didn't use them - I used Huggies Supreme). I agree about the pampers wipes being flimsy and very thin. I love Huggies wipes!!
ReplyDeleteYou don't know me, but I am a "friendly blog stalker" otherwise know as Ross Bradley's sister!! I link to your blog from Shannon's. Anyway, to answer your question, we bought diapers each time we went to the store from day one!! The trick is to buy various sizes. I may have only gotten two or three packs at my baby showers because let's face it... who can resist buying the "cute" things and diapers can just be plain borring! Anyway, I agree with other commenters that you will get lots from the hospital (when they fill up your drawer stuff them in your overnight bag and they will promptly refill your drawer!!!) so I would buy mostly size one's and two's!!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my blog sometime if your interested in who the "stalker" is!!
I didn't get but one pack at any of my showers - except from Momma and Nora. We made it a rule that every week that we went grocery shopping, we bought either a pack of NB or 1 diapers. We bought more 1's than NB (which turned out GREAT!..hahaa) But we didn't get a lot from the hospital and we've only had to buy one pack of diapers since Jack Jack was born. So I'd highly encourage you to buy as you go to the store. Even alternate buying the more expensive - Pampers are my favorite and Target or Wal Mart brand. We use mostly Target during the day and Pampers at night. It saves oodles of money! Love YOU!
ReplyDeleteI don't remember clearly, but I don't think I received any diapers at my baby shower for Georgia. I did receive a couple of packages of diapers--often from people who visited AFTER Georgia was born. I would recommend buying a few packages between now and April so you don't have to run out for diapers right after Griffin is born. You don't have to take diapers to the hospital, but when I had Baxter, they did not send me home with tons of diapers either. Baxter outgrew his newborn AND size 1 diapers really quickly, so I am glad that I didn't buy tons in those sizes. If you have a membership at Sam's or BJs, yuo can buy one box there and be 'stocked' for awhile. I love Pampers Swaddlers for newborns, but Pampers and Huggies both work well. Many people swear by Target and WalMart brand, but Baxter leaks out of Target brand, and anything "generic" causes Georgia to break out. But we use cloth diapers most of the time now, which is a completely different story... :-)
ReplyDeleteI love Pampers diapers and Huggies wipes. I bought up several neworn and size ones. Avary was a preemie so we were in a size 1 forever. She started out in preemie extra small. I did not know such things existed. I only got 2 packs at my showers. It is good to have the next size on hand.
ReplyDeleteI might go against what some say but I got TONS of diapers at my showers and the hospital sent us home with a TON as well! I didn't buy a pack until the boys were in size 3. If I were you, I would buy some as you can but I would buy the larger sizes like 2s and 3s. Once Griffin gets to that size, you'll be glad you have them because all your money will be going to other things :)
ReplyDeleteSave your diapers for home, AND if you dont feel too bad about it take some from the hospital (you are paying for it by the way)! I got several packs at showers, but I think I bought some beforehand too. As long as you have a couple of packs of newborns for when you come home you should be fine. You can always send JR out to get them! Hope this helps. I always try to buy some of the most basic things for people because if it werent for me getting them at my shower I wouldnt have had a clue that I needed them until Connor was screaming his head off at 3 am. By the way, make sure you have some gas drops for when you get home. This was a miracle drug for C and it helped us keep our sanity too!
ReplyDeleteWe bought one pack of newborns and a pack of 1's. We also took the diapers from the hospital before we left... Anything in your room that has been opened you are being charged for so take it home! It will save you the trip to the store!
ReplyDeleteI got tons at baby showers, but both of my kiddos are allergic to different brands so we could only use pampers. I did a lot of exchanging in the first couple of months.
Also, ask your pediatrician for samples! They usually have a stock room with all kinds of newborn products!
I too loved Pampers (swadlers, not baby dry) and Huggies wipes. I had a diaper shower and it was great so if anyone else wants to do a shower for you, why not suggest it! And for us, the size 1 diapers were more practical, Brody weighed 8lbs and was out of newborn diapers pretty quick
ReplyDeleteI didn't get any diapers at my shower, but you can go onto pampers website and sign up for coupons and bonus points if they are still doing that also, if you aren't planning to breast feed or can't for some reason you can go onto the different formula websites and sign up for coupons too and so can anyone in your family and give you the coupons to get more off. Just a tip!!
ReplyDeleteI know what I will get you now for your shower! I hope all is well!
ReplyDeleteOk, I know you got a TON of responses, but I am going to throw in my two cents worth ;) I think it is crazy to buy a box every time you go to the store before he is born! I am sure you will get a pack of diapers at at least one of your showers and if not, it is no biggie to run and get a pack. I would have two packs in house before Griffin arrives. The only time I used pampers was for newborn stage and I liked them for that. But once they hit size 1, I go Sam's or BJ's brand. I wouldn't spend the money for pampers. And I do the wipes from Sams or BJ's too. Saves a TON of money. Rex sends you home w/ diapers, they did on all 3 of our kids. Ok, those are my thoughts :) love ya, ct
ReplyDeleteI had 4 showers and only got one pack of diapers, size 2. Sailor came a little early so I hadn't bought any by that time. I did not feel bad at all about taking them from the hospital, like Tara said, I am sure you are in some way charged for them anyway. I cleaned the little nursery station in our room out and took what I needed!
